TeachDifferent: The Reflexion Programme

Much more to come as finally we process the learning from last year, but in the meantime, here’s the evaluation of the Reflexion Programme (by HUDCETT).

Reflexion Project Final Report 2014

Our new CPD programme, aimed at adult and community learning tutors (and anyone teaching adults for a social purpose) is now recruiting.   It’s completely free of charge and your organisation will even get paid for you to attend if you come along for both days 🙂

This is a joint partnership project with Barnsley MBC Adult and Family Learning Services, funded by the Education and Training Foundation, and it provides an opportunity for 160 educators to get tuned in and turned onto their reflexive praxis 🙂

Each cohort is two days, the aim of which is to get you thinking and talking about the work you do, how you can tune out of the emotional labour of the policy context and local internal politics, to become more reflexive for the benefit of your students and for your own happiness. We are going to be exploring dialogue, peer coaching, blogging and above all THINKING about what teaching is and about your identity as a teacher.  We also have an online ‘uncourse’ running alongside the Programme for 4 weeks, beginning 28th April.  For more details see here.

(If you prefer more traditional objectives these are they:  1.  Reconnect with your values and practice as an educator.  2.  Practise Thinking Environment and other techniques to deepen your reflexive thinking.  3.  Explore the context for digital literacy development for teachers and consider a stretch goal for yourself. :-))

There’s no writing or homework; all we ask is an open mind and for you to be completely present as yourself for each of the two days. In return, we offer you lunch, listening and beautiful surroundings, as well as an opportunity to get involved in our supportive on- and off-line ‘Community of Praxis’.

We’re recruiting now and all we want is an email from you to l.mycroft@northern.ac.uk (or tweet me at @teachnorthern with your email address).  Dates are:

Cohort 1 – 26th March AND 16th July (FULL)
Cohort 2 – 9th April AND 23rd July (FULL)
Cohort 3 – 10th April AND 24th July (FULL)
Cohort 4 – 29th April AND 30th June (FULL)

*NEW* Cohort 5 – 2nd June AND 18th July (places left)

Each day runs from 9.30am (refreshments from 9am) to approximately 4pm at The Northern College, Wentworth Castle, Barnsley S75 3ET.  Look how gorgeous we are!

  1. Hi
This looks very interesting! May I ask if you ever deliver to organisations on their own site please? I have several members of the inhouse training team who are interested in this qualification. Is it the level 3 Award in Education and Training?

    Many thanks

    1. Hi Eileen thank you for your lovely comment! And yes we do, we’d love to come out to you and deliver whatever is best for your team. It is indeed the Level 3 Award in Education and Training, with that social purpose message. Would you like to leave me your email and I’ll drop you a line? Lou.

  2. Am a WEA tutor running courses in Self Help, Personal Development, stress management etc. interested in cohort 5 for myself and potentially one colleague

  3. Hi I work with manor and Castle Development Trust delivering self esteem and confidence boosting courses. I would like to attend on 29th April and 18th July.
